One thing many families ask themselves when they have with a loved one who is struggling with substance abuse is whether they are enabling the person to continue using. Are you continuing to provide a home, money or drugs and alcohol? Are you lying on their behalf, covering up their use or blaming others for their addiction? If you said yes to any of these, you are enabling. Even though your intentions may be good, the end result is the addict believing their behavior is acceptable.
