Once a patient has undergone a thorough clinical assessment, our detoxification unit may be the first visit. Medically-assisted detox is important as attempting on your own can be extremely dangerous, even fatal. For example, alcoholics should never decide to go “cold turkey” as the body would be flooded with abnormally high levels of serotonin, epinephrine and dopamine in an attempt to maintain the normal function it has been used to with daily drinking. This can cause severe symptoms that include vomiting, shakiness, extreme sweating, visual and auditory hallucinations, convulsions, whole body tremors and heart failure. Without immediate care, people can suffer head injuries, lethal dehydration, heart attack or stroke.
Under medical supervision, our patients’ safety is priority and our staff is available around-the-clock to help ease the painful symptoms of withdrawal.
